i wish we could've helped the blackbird
its eyes were like glass beads, a beak of shock yelow
it sat on the cold winter stones
one leg
a wing and a half to use
enough to fly just out of reach
when we wanted to take it home and
feed it seeds and fruit and honey
eventually we got cold
(the bird must've been colder)
and left, defeated
i wish we could've helped the damn blackbird
it was so beautiful
in the gray winter day
